Mountain Biking and Hiking

We are located adjacent to the George Mickelson Hiking & Biking Trail. Our resort is also surrounded by National Forest with miles of hiking trails to guide you into the rugged back country.

Bike Rentals

Enjoy a leisurely ride or hike along the George S. Mickelson Trail or feel free to hike or bike at The Ranch. Rentals are available at the office.

Hiking Trails

The Ranch is surrounded by the Black Hills National Forest. You are welcome to hike anywhere in the National Forest. We ask that our guests avoid housing, maintenance and barn areas while hiking The Ranch.

Fishing

Spring & Sunday Creeks are periodically stocked by the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department. A daily fishing permit is required for all fishing. Fishing tackle is available in The Ranch store.

The Sunday Gulch Fishing Pond is located within walking of Rafter J and is well stocked with Rainbow Trout.

Earthscapes Structures Playground

We have grand plans for a recreation center that will provide fun for the entire family during your stay here at Rafter J. The first phase of that recreation center was installed in 2009 — an Earthscapes Structures© playground. Your children will have fun all day on this large playground set.
